"Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farmworkers can become the president of a great nation. It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another."

Career Summary

Research Activity

Since 1999 I work on Applied Spectroscopy topics. Into details I work on: 1) Validation of Spectroscopy and radiative transfer in the Earth atmosphere:2) Development of physical radiative transfer models for the inversion of the thermodynamic state of the Earth atmosphere (temperature and atmospheric molecules concentration). These activities are carried out by analyzing the atmospheric emission spectrum in the infrared region (far and thermal, from 100 to 3.5 micron) observed from space and from ground. This research is developed in the framework of several international programs, such as IMG, the Fourier Transform Spectrometer of the Japanese Spatial Agency, flew on board of ADEOS satellite from 1996 to 1997; AIRS (Atmospheric Infrared Radiometer Sounder, NASA), flying on board of EOS-Aqua platform; IASI (Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer, EUMETSAT - EUropean Organization for the exploitation of METeorological SATellite) flying on board of METOP platforms; REFIR (Radiation Explorer in the Far Infrared), Italian-British joint venture for the definition and the spatial qualification of a Fourier Transform Spectrometer in the far infrared; NAST-I, NASA Fourier Transform Spectrometer flying on board of stratospheric airplanes; SEVIRI (Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager) on board of METEOSAT geostationary platform. These activities are funded in the framework of National and International Research Programs devoted to Physic and Earth Observation. Into details: EUMETSAT projects for the Assessment of IASI data (1999-2004); EUMETSAT projects related to the studies for the IR hyperspectral FTS on board of Meteosat Third Generation (MTG), (2004 to present) and for the Next Generation of IASI interferometer (IASI-NG); EUMESAT projects related to the space-time constrained Parameter Estimation from Geostationary data, (2012 to present); Italian Ministry of Research project devoted at the deployment of Industrial district for the Earth Observations (PON 2002-2004); National Interest Research Program of Italian Ministry of Research devoted to the study of rotational band of water vapour; National Research Project in Antarctica (PNRA) for the characterization of radiative properties of water vapour and clouds in Antarctica (PRANA). I am Visiting Scientist at the EUMETSAT headquarter. I have published on my research more than 100 publications and I am referee for several International Journals of Optics and Atmospheric Science and for Italian and International research funding agencies.
