SUMMER School of Hydrology

APPLIED COURSE ON UASs FOR ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING - Matera, 11-15 JULY 2016

The summer school is aimed at students who are currently at the master or doctoral level, as well as researchers and professionals with a common interest in eco-hydrological modelling, hydrological monitoring and use of advanced monitoring techniques. Nonetheless, we accept very motivated undergraduate students as well. The course will focus on applying UAVs (both fixed and rotary wing) to measure and repeatedly monitor vegetation state, land cover, surface morphology, and river systems. Students will be directly involved in field experiences that aim to develop practical skills in using this fast growing technology to improve environmental modeling.

Participants should have basic computer skills and a strong desire to learn how to use and operate UASs and process data. We expect students to have a special interest in hydrology, ecology, geographical data analyses, previous experience in Geographic Information Systems would be helpful. Students need to bring their own laptops.

This course is organized in collaboration with MOXXI working group of IAHS (MOXXI-IAHS: Measurements and Observation in 21st Century - working group of International Association of Hydrological Sciences).
